One of my favorite things in the entire world are books. Katy and I spend hours browsing the shelves for deals whenever we go to book stores. However, when we finally make it to the checkout line I always have to convince myself not to buy one of the pretty bookmarks. It’s a struggle. At this point I have already made a difficult decision on which books to buy and not to go overboard and go over our budget. So, I must avoid the bookmarks. Recently, I found plain bookmarks at the craft store and decided to make my own DIY bookmarks to help me not be tempted by the bookmarks staring me down while I wait in line.
Here is how to make DIY Bookmarks.
Start with plain bookmarks, cardstock, or old greeting cards. If using cardstock or an old greeting card, you’ll need to cut them to bookmark size.
So here is where it gets fun! You get to decorate these how you choose.
For my first one, I cut scrapbook paper to the size of the bookmark and then applied mod podge to the bookmark and then pressed the scrapbook paper on. I absolutely love this ribbon. Chevron and elephants make my heart happy. Additionally, you might recognize this scrapbook paper from the DIY Coasters! I always save scraps, which helps to be crafty on a budget.
For the second, I used one on my favorite stamps. (I love Cameos.)
For the third, I used some scrapbooking stickers.
The fourth is pretty special. It is a greeting card that has this really lovely vintage print. I paired it with a fun ribbon to give it a modern twist.
So here is how to tie the ribbon on! First, use a hole punch to make a hole wherever you want the ribbon. Fold the ribbon in half and put both ends through the hole in order to make a loop.
Then we take the both ends and feed them through the loop we just created.
Pull it tight, but gently so that we don’t break the paper.
That is it! A super simple craft that I love to see in my books!
If you make one, we would love to see it!
